机构简介:

The Triangle Universities Nuclear Laboratory (TUNL) is a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Center of Excellence that focuses on low-energy nuclear physics research. TUNL is a consortium of three major research universities in the North Carolina Research Triangle Area: Duke University, North Carolina State University, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. From these three and other collaborating Universities, about 30 faculty members, 20 postdocs and research scientists, and 50 graduate students conduct research at TUNL.

TUNL provides an intellectually and technically rich environment for educating graduate students in experimental nuclear physics through conducting research on projects that pursue answers to questions at the frontier of physics, for example,"What is the nature of neutrinos?""Why is there more visible matter in the universe?","What are the reactions that drive stars and stellar explosions?", and"What is the internal landscape of the nucleons?".

TUNL operates three accelerator facilities: the High Intensity Gamma-ray Source (HIGS), the Laboratory for Experimental Nuclear Astrophysics (LENA) and the tandem accelerator laboratory. In addition, there are a variety of specialized laboratories used by TUNL research groups for equipment R&D on all three campuses.
